About Reuben:

Reuben Portanier is GTG’s Advisory and Compliance Partner. Reuben joined the GTG Group in 2018 as the co-founding partner of Afilexion Alliance (which was rebranded as GTG Corporate in 2022).  Prior to joining GTG, Mr Portanier founded his own gaming and financial services advisory firm, Avviza which merged with Afilexion in 2018.   Mr Portanier is a C-Level professional with executive management experience in the consulting, technology and gaming sectors. At GTG, he is responsible for the Gaming Advisory, Business Advisory, Outsourcing Services and Compliance Consulting portfolios. Mr Portanier is also specialised in financial services, fintech, ESG and other regulated sectors, and leads licensing support.

Mr Portanier is a former CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority, and a former board trustee of the International Association of Gaming Regulators. Reuben also acted as an advisor to the Government of Malta on Gaming Policy and European Regulatory policy, whilst he was a member of the European Commission’s Expert Group till end 2013.  Mr Portanier was the author of Malta’s submission to the European Union’s Green Paper on On-line Gaming.  Mr. Portanier also held management consultancy experience with Arthur Andersen, and held C-Level positions in the ICT sector with MITTS Ltd (now MITA) and with the Siemens part owned Datatrak Holdings plc (now Loqus).

Mr Portanier is an internationally recognised expert in Gaming, being a frequent speaker on international conferences, whilst he was awarded as one of the 50 most influential persons in the gaming industry by the Gaming Intelligence Magazine in 2013, and as iGaming Consultant of the Year by iGaming Idol in 2018.  Mr Portanier is a Board Member of the Malta Football Association, sitting on the board which adjudicates charges on bribery and illegal betting in football, whilst he was a visiting lecturer on sport betting and sport integrity with the ISDE University in Barcelona. Mr Portanier is a member of the International Masters of Gaming Law (IMGL). He is also a member of the Malta Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Portanier holds an honours first degree in Economics and a Master in Financial Services Law, both from the University of Malta.  Mr Portanier is also qualified in Virtual Financial Assets and holds a post graduate certificate in ESG from the University of Malta.
