About Atle:

Atle Hamar has been Director General for the Norwegian Gaming and Foundation Authority since 2001.

Mr. Hamar has served as a board member of the International Association of Gaming Regulators for ten years, and was elected IAGR President in 2007.

Mr. Hamar has 30 years’ experience with politics and state administration, including serving as deputy minister in the Ministry for Police and Justice Affairs, deputy minister in The Ministry of climate and environment, and as political advisor in the Ministry for Transport and Communication.

Mr. Hamar has served on a variety of boards and committees:

  • Board member Consumer Council Service (2020-)
  • Board member The Norwegian Cultural Heritage Fund (2020-)
  • Board member of the Regional Hospital (Helse Førde) (2014-2018)
  • Chairman of a government-appointed Expert Group (Hamar-utvalget) advising the Norwegian Government on how Norway may continue to offer a socially responsible gambling and gaming market, including social gaming, in the future (2013-2014)
  • Member of the government-appointed committee to advice the Authorities on how to receive and accept refugees in Norway (2010-2011)
  • Board member of the National Civil Aviation Authority (2003-2006)
  • Board member of the Enivest (telecommunication company) (2002-2006)
  • Committee-chairman for the official report regarding the future gaming in Norway (2001)
  • In younger years, chairman of Young Liberal Democrats in Norway
