One armed bandit IAGR

The Danish Gambling Authority’s award-winning campaign on youth gambling prevention

The Danish Gambling Authority took a bold, creative approach to responsible gambling, and its efforts were recognised with the Best Regulatory Campaign Award at the 2024 IAGR International Regulatory Awards.

Now, IAGR members can hear directly from the team behind ‘The One-Armed Bandit’ campaign in our next member webinar on Thursday 3 April.

About the campaignOne armed bandit on Instagram

The campaign was launched in response to a 2023 study revealing that 15% of Danish youth aged 15-17 had engaged in gambling despite age restrictions.

Instead of traditional awareness messaging, the Danish Gambling Authority took a new approach, using:

  • Humour and exaggeration to resonate with young audiences
  • Social media and influencer partnerships to amplify reach
  • Post-campaign surveys to measure impact

The results? 44% of young viewers said the campaign made them reconsider their gambling habits, and 41% said it sparked conversations about gambling control among their peers.

What you’ll learn

In this webinar, Katja Antabi, Chief Adviser of Communications and Marie Jensen, Communications Officer from the Danish Gambling Authority, will discuss:

  • How they designed and executed the campaign
  • What worked, what didn’t, and lessons learned
  • How regulators can apply these insights to future responsible gambling initiatives

The webinar includes time for audience Q&A.
