Philip Crawford was appointed the inaugural Chief Commissioner of the newly established NSW Independent Casino Commission (NICC) in 2022.
In just a few short years, Mr Crawford has worked to restore public confidence in the casino industry by overseeing a series of groundbreaking remediation plans, implementing strict new controls and providing the stringent oversight needed to lift standards in NSW.
During his time at the NICC and in his previous role as chairman of the NSW Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (ILGA), Mr Crawford has overseen three casino inquiries into Crown Sydney and The Star Sydney.
He has driven the necessary disciplinary action to implement structural change around governance, anti-money laundering measures and corporate culture at both venues to ensure a safer and more stable casino industry in NSW.
Mr Crawford has practised as a solicitor in Sydney for more than 40 years and is recognised as a leading practitioner in litigation, insolvency and restructuring, and alternative dispute resolution.
He was Chairman of Partners at the Sydney law firm Henry Davis York. From 2013 to 2022, Mr Crawford conducted a mediation practice on his own account.
