PANEL – Protective measures for young adults in gambling

In many countries, young adults are not (yet) seen as extra vulnerable when it comes to gambling. Limiting offering or even prohibiting gambling carries the risk that this group will see advertisements for illegal offering, and will start to play illegally and don’t join the legal offering. What is the best solution for this group when it comes to protective measures?

About Portia:

Portia Gaone Diteko is an award-winning speaker and addiction professional.

Portia has completed postgraduate studies in Psychology and Addiction Science. She has also completed trainings in Universal Prevention Curriculum, Universal Treatment Curriculum and Recovery Coaching offered by the International Centre for Credentialing and Certification of Addiction Professionals (ICCE). She is currently studying a Master’s in Business Administration and is scheduled to complete in May 2025.

Portia boasts 15 years of work experience. She is currently the Responsible Gambling Program Manager at the national gambling regulatory body in Botswana. Her duties include research, prevention and rehabilitation program and policy development, liaising between operators, players and responsible gambling service providers, and supervising a team of counsellors and public educators.

Prior to her work with Gambling Authority, Ms Portia Diteko served as a substance abuse counsellor in both international and national inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation centres.
