Upcoming member webinar

ACMA to share insights into Australia’s national self-exclusion register

IAGR members are invited to a webinar with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), winner of the 2024 IAGR Regulatory Excellence Award.

The session provides a behind-the-scenes look at the design and implementation of BetStop – Australia’s first national self-exclusion register.

Free and exclusive to IAGR members, the webinar will be presented by ACMA’s Matthew Anderson, who accepted the award on behalf of ACMA last year, and the ACMA’s team responsible for managing the program.

“BetStop represents a significant enhancement of consumer safeguards available to Australians who gamble.

The IAGR award for regulatory excellence is recognition of the dedication and collaboration of ACMA staff in delivering this important safeguard, which has supported more than 30,000 Australians registered to date.”
– Nerida O’Loughlin, Chair of ACMA

What is BetStop?

Launched in 2023, BetStop is Australia’s first national self-exclusion register. It allows individuals to voluntarily exclude themselves from all licensed interactive wagering services across the country with a single registration — offering a powerful new tool to support those at risk of gambling harm.

The system is mandatory for all licensed operators and includes robust identity verification, minimum exclusion periods, and protections against direct marketing.

What to expect from the session

The webinar will cover:

  • The policy and legislative foundation for BetStop
  • Key implementation challenges and lessons learned
  • Early impact and public response
  • How the system fits into ACMA’s broader regulatory approach

This is a valuable opportunity for regulators to hear how a national register can be designed and delivered at scale.

  • Date: Wednesday 16 July, 4pm- 5pm AEST, look up the timing in your location (use Sydney as location 1)
  • Speaker: Matthew Anderson, Manager – National Self-Exclusion Register, ACMA and members of the team responsible for managing the program.
  • Access: Free for IAGR members only

The session will be recorded and shared with all registrants.
