GLI Seminar morning: Technology disruptors
Emerging technologies being implemented in the gaming industry bring potential benefits and risks. This session will dive into the infrastructure required and the implications of such changes. Specifically, this presentation will discuss Mandatory Carded Play, Microservices, AI, Cloud-Based solutions, and the impact such technologies have on Responsible Gaming, Privacy, Security and AML/CTF. We will explore the importance and role of robust regulation and modern testing practices in the safe deployment of such technologies. The session ends with a discussion of the potential impact of Quantum Computing.
About Ian:
Ian Hughes is the Chief Revenue Officer for GLI®. In his role, he oversees the commercial success of the company’s global gaming group, ensuring clients grow their potential and increasing their efficiencies in the testing and certification process. He is also responsible for overseeing professional services provided by GLI laboratories and providing technical advice and certification services to regulators globally. His passion lies in leveraging cutting-edge technology in assisting regulators, operators, and suppliers in developing and deploying innovative solutions that provide benefits to the gaming industry and protection of all participants.
Hughes played a key role in the successful establishment and operation of the Pachinko & Pachislot testing laboratory in Japan, designated by the National Public Safety Commission.
With over 30 years of experience in gaming equipment compliance, Hughes is a leading expert and a key advocate on leveraging AI to address critical regulatory issues, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF), and Responsible Gaming. His commitment to advancing technology in gaming compliance is exemplified by his recent completion of an MIT course on AI, reinforcing his expertise and commitment to technological growth and excellence.
In recognition of his impactful contributions to the technology industry, Hughes has been named a winner in the Las Vegas Top Tech Awards 2024, Emerging Technology Category.
Hughes takes an active role and represents GLI interests on various committees and industry forums regarding gaming policy and standards. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering and a master’s degree in Business Administration, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also passionate about Aviation and holds both a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) & CASA private pilot’s license and is instrument-rated.
